Setting up a reliable office network does not have to be complicated or expensive. Here is what a typical small office needs.

1. Internet Connection & Router

Your network starts with a good router. For most small offices (up to 20 users), a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 router from TP-Link or D-Link is sufficient. For offices with heavy internet use, consider a dedicated business-grade router with QoS (Quality of Service) features.

2. Network Switch

If you have more than 4-5 wired devices, you will need a network switch. A simple 8-port or 16-port unmanaged switch from D-Link or TP-Link handles most small office needs at a low cost.

3. Structured Cabling

Proper Cat6 network cabling installed through the walls or cable trays is far more reliable than Wi-Fi for desktop computers and servers. APS can supply Cat6 cables, patch panels, and wall jacks, and can recommend a local installer.

4. Wi-Fi Coverage

If your office has multiple rooms or floors, a single router may not provide adequate Wi-Fi coverage. Consider adding one or two wireless access points to ensure every area has a strong signal.
